2 dogs killed, house totaled after fire in Sioux County, IA Sunday afternoon

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (KTIV) - A house was destroyed and two animals were killed in Sioux County, Iowa after a fire broke out Sunday afternoon.

According to KIWA Radio, Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland say the fire was reported around 4:45 p.m. on Garfield Avenue in Carmel. The community of Carmel is located a couple of miles northwest of Sioux Center, Iowa.

The chief says the fire department saw flames coming out of the front window as they approached the scene and they used both an exterior and an interior attack to fight the fire. Firefighters were at the scene for about three hours fighting the blaze.

Van Holland reports the house was totaled in the fire and two dogs were lost in the fire. Red Cross was contacted to assistant the occupants in finding a place to stay.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The Sioux Center Fire Department was assisted by Rock Valley, Hull, Maurice, and Ireton firefighters.
