UPDATE

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - More information about a deputy-involved shooting at a Sergeant Bluff, Iowa mobile home park is being released by the Woodbury County Sheriff.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Wednesday, Woodbury County deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at Woodford Mobile Home Park.

Authorities say, when they confronted the suspect trying to break into a trailer, he came at them with a tire iron. A deputy used a taser on the suspect, but it didn’t slow him down.

Investigators say the suspect then struck a deputy with the tire iron and another deputy shot the suspect. The suspect was taken to a hospital where he died.

During a news conference, Sheriff Chad Sheehan said authorities are examining body-camera video of the incident. The sheriff says bodycam video of the incident has been turned over to the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation - who is now handling the case.

The sheriff did not identify the man who died after the incident.

The sheriff provided few updates, except to say three law enforcement officers were involved: Two Woodbury County deputies and a Sergeant Bluff police officer. All three were wearing body cameras and the footage is now evidence in the investigation.

Woodbury County will not release the bodycam video until the DCI and County Attorney have had a chance to review the case. The sheriff has not released a timetable for the completion of the investigation.

“The sheriff’s office will simultaneously conduct an internal review of the actions taken by our deputies to ensure that the policies of the sheriff’s office have been followed,” said Sheehan.

To recap, the sheriff’s department and the state will conduct an investigation into the incident and review the body camera footage. However, we don’t know how long that could take.
