LIST: Siouxland communities issue snow emergencies due to expected winter weather Friday

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - In preparation for the expected snowfall around Siouxland, some communities have issued snow emergencies starting on Friday, Jan. 14.

Storm Lake

The City of Storm Lake is declaring a snow emergency effective Jan. 14 at 10 p.m. and runs through Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 6 a.m. During a snow emergency, parking is not allowed on streets in residential areas between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6 a.m., on streets in the Central Business District between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., and in downtown public parking lots designated as Lot B and Lot D.

Vehicles found to be in violation of the city’s snow policy may be ticked and/or towed.

South Sioux City

The City of South Sioux City Public Works Department is declaring a snow emergency effective Friday, Jan. 14 through Saturday, Jan. 15 at 6 a.m. Parking is prohibited on the designated snow emergency routes. These routes are permanently marked with signage. Primarily, they are the secondary streets that are used for heavier traffic. Vehicles may be towed if parked, stalled, or stuck on one of the routes.

During the snow emergency period, all non-emergency route streets will utilize the alternate parking requirement. Parking will be allowed only on the even addressed sides of the streets on even calendar days and odd side of the streets. Friday park on the even side, Saturday park on the odd side.

City officials say it is not acceptable to blow, push, or shovel snow from sidewalks or driveways out into the city streets.


The Mayor of the City of Onawa has declared a snow emergency starting Friday, Jan. 14, at midnight and ending Saturday, Jan. 15 at 12 p.m. City Code states no person shall park, abandon, or leave unattended any vehicle on a public street, alley, or city-owned off-street parking area during snow removal operations unless the snow has been removed or plowed and the snow has ceased.


The Mayor of the City of Mapleton has declared a snow emergency starting at 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14. The emergency is expected to last until noon on Saturday, Jan. 15. All vehicles must be off all streets, alleys, or city-owned off-street parking areas until the snow emergency is over or until the snow has ceased to fall and has been removed from the roadways.


The City of Moville has issued a snow emergency from 3 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14 through 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15. They advise everyone to not park on main streets or emergency routes to allow for plows to pass.


They Mayor of the City of Danbury has declared a snow emergency starting Friday, January 14 at 6:00am through Sunday, January 16. All vehicles will need to be parked off the streets to ensure plows can get through.


City officials have announced that all vehicles in the City of Wahpeton should be off city streets to allow for safe snow removal.


City of Spencer snow ordinance to go into effect tonight. No parking will be allowed on city streets from midnight tonight, Friday, January 14 to Saturday January 15th at 7am.


A snow emergency has been issued for the City of Milford started at 2:30am Saturday January 15. No parking on all city streets to allow for snow removal.
