SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Tomorrow, Americans will pause to honor the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior.

Prominent events are planned in Sioux City, as well. The annual “Martin Luther King Jr. Community Event” will be held at Kingdom Ministries Monday night at 7:00pm.

Organizers say a choir will perform, alongside prominent guest speakers from the community. The event is sponsored by the NAACP, Sioux City Human Rights Commission, and the Mary Treglia Community House.

“It’s a day of awareness when it comes to all mankind, when it comes to equality and that we will all live in unity here in this great country, that we call the USA,” said Sandra Pearson, an organizer of the event.

Dr. King, the former leader of the American civil rights movement, is perhaps most known for his “I have a dream speech.” But, Pearson says the day is about so much more.

“And he is known for marching and demanding equal rights for all people, all mankind, and specifically, it mainly affected people of color during the civil rights movement,” said Pearson.

KTIV News 4′s Stella Daskalakis will emcee tomorrow night’s event. It can be live streamed on the Kingdom Ministries’ Facebook page.
