MADISON, Neb. (KTIV) - One person has died after they were thrown from a vehicle during a rollover crash Sunday night in Madison County, Nebraska.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says the one-vehicle accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. at 832nd Road and 544th Avenue, an intersection several miles northwest of Madison. Authorities say a vehicle containing two people ran off the road causing the vehicle to roll, ejecting the driver.

The driver, 37-year-old Shane Melcher, died of his injuries at the scene, while the passenger, 37-year-old Micaela Henkel, was flown to a hospital for treatment. Both of them were residents of Meadow Grove.

Authorities say neither occupant was wearing a seat belt and alcohol may have been a contributing factor. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
