Norfolk apartment sustains $50,000 worth of damage; no injuries reported
NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) - No one was hurt but $50,000 worth of damage was done to an apartment complex Thursday morning in northeast Nebraska.
Officials say at about 2 a.m. Norfolk Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a local apartment for a fire. When crews arrived at the apartment in the 100 block of N 1st Street, they saw flames coming from a second-story window.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames throughout the second floor of the apartment. It took 19 firefighters and four rigs about 20 minutes to get the fire under control and another 90 minutes to knock it out. All occupants in the apartment were able to safely evacuate before crews arrived at the scene.
The property is estimated to be worth about $58,000. According to Norfolk Fire, it sustained $30,000 damage to the structure and about $20,000 to the contents.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
