Police: 9-year-old unintentionally shot by another child in Storm Lake, IA

STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) - A 9-year-old was sent to the hospital after being accidentally shot Wednesday in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Storm Lake Police Department says at about 7:30 p.m. first responders were sent to a residence on East 12th Street. They had gotten reports of a 9-year-old child being shot in the lower body. Police say they have determined another child in the home located an unsecured handgun and unintentionally shot it, striking the 9-year-old victim.

The 9-year-old was sent to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, no charges have been reported at this time.
