OKOBOJI, Iowa (KTIV) - The Okoboji Winter Games are just about a week away. And one of the games’ most popular events is returning to the Iowa Great Lakes.

The kite festival will be taking place on the ice of West Lake Okoboji just off of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.

Blain Andera, a member of the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce, says this year’s festival will be the biggest yet.

“The St. Paul Kite Festival is not going to happen this year so it sounds like quite a few of those folks are going to be coming down here. we are well on our way to have this be the biggest kite festival in the United States so it’s really something to kick-off with winter games,” said Andera.

The kite festival is free of charge and they’ll be in the air Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the winter games weekend. The games start on Jan. 27 and run through Jan. 30.
