One fatality after vehicle accident on US 75 southbound near Merrill early Tuesday morning

Power is estimated to be restored by 8:15 A.M.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - At approximately 4:53 A.M. a Plymouth County Deputy observed large sparks from power lines on the north side of Merrill.

Upon investigating the cause, a southbound semi left the roadway, striking a power line pole, and continued toward Liberty Auto, striking several vehicles.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office can confirm one fatality from the accident. No name will be released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The right lane of southbound US 75 going through Merrill, IA is blocked after a vehicle accident.

The accident, reported by 511 Iowa, caused 435 people to lose power in Merrill.

MidAmerican Energy Company’s outage map reports the cause as a vehicle accident, showing power is estimated to be restored around 8:15 A.M. The customers lost power at 4:51 A.M. according to the outage map.
