GALLERY: A look at the severe weather that rolled through Siouxland on May 12
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Siouxland saw a derecho roll through Thursday and plenty of communities saw some intense weather. From large dust clouds rolling through the area to lightning to tornadoes briefly touching down, Siouxland and several parts of the Midwest got their fair share of severe weather.
We’ve been getting photos from across the area of what Siouxlanders saw as the storms came and went. Below is a gallery of some of the photos we’ve received.
We also received several videos of tornadoes and dust storms in Siouxland. The video below was taken by the Oleson family, of Hornick, Iowa, on Interstate 29 by Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
Near Homer, Nebraska, Larry Welch sent us this video of a possible tornado just outside of town. It was taken at about 7 p.m. Thursday.
And this video came from Osmond, Nebraska. Abby Brown was able to get video of dust clouds rolling into the area Thursday afternoon.
This video comes out of Orange City, Iowa courtesy of Austin Oolman. You can see the gust front going through the area when all of a sudden there’s a flash. That flash is of a power line being taken down.
Here’s a video depicting just how damaging the winds were on May 12. The video below shows a bus barn at West Sioux High School in Hawarden being blown off.
Finally, here’s a look at the damage KTIV saw in Sioux City and Rock Valley.
