Over 100 animals rescued from property in Carroll County, IA
LANESBORO, Iowa (KTIV) - A property outside of Lanesboro in Carroll County, Iowa is the scene of an ongoing investigation into a suspected case of animal neglect involving more than 100 dogs, goats and other animals.
“Makes me sick to my stomach. You don’t do that to animals,” said Caroline Mahone, a local resident reacting to pictures of the scene, showing animals living in filthy conditions.

“I would be out here hanging my clothes and I could hear donkeys and goats scream,” said Mahon. “you go out there and you just drive by her place and you can hear animals screaming all the time.”
Mahon said it was these experiences that forced her hand, telling authorities of the conditions. The Carroll County Sheriff and the Animal Rescue League responded.
“I’m very happy about it,” said Mahon. “It makes me smile.
More than 100 dogs, about 50 goats, a miniature donkey, several miniature horses and a cow were found on the property.
“This was a terrible case of hoarding and the owner was not running a puppy mill. The dogs were being fed but as stated earlier, their living conditions were beyond bad.”

Christine Peterson, another local resident, says one of the major issues in this situation is she believes no one has lived here for a few years.
“No one is on the property at all,” explained Peterson. “other than someone to come feed. I am not even sure if she feeds them every day.”
Sheriff Pingrey said they are currently working to find homes for the animals and this matter is currently under investigation. The name of the property owner has not been released.
