STEMM’s ‘Night of Hope’ event raises $233,035 to help those in Tanzania
DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. (KTIV) - Thursday night, Siouxlanders had the chance to make a difference in the lives of children half way across the world.
Siouxland Tanzania Educational Medical Ministries, or STEMM, held its largest fundraiser, “Night of Hope”, at the Holiday Inn Express in Dakota Dunes.
STEMM is an evangelical organization that tries to meet the needs of those living in Tanzania. Over the years, they’ve sent 20,000 kids through high school and university in Tanzania. Their hot lunch program also provides meals for 5,000 students a day.
All of the money raised Thursday went toward their cause.
KTIV’s Matt Breen was the Emcee for the event. Before it all started, he spoke with STEMM’s Co-Founder about the organization and their new agricultural endeavors.
“We are trying to turn our 100-acre farm into a modern technology training center for agriculture for the entire country of Tanzania,” said Co-Founder, Dr. Steve Meyer. “And because of all of that the president of Tanzania has approached us to sign a formal MOU, a memorandum of understanding, as the preferred Tanzania charity which is massive. And an incredible testimony to the people of Siouxland who have made all this happen all these years.”
In total, STEMM raised $233,035 at the auction.
