Sioux City Art Center celebrates restored Grant Wood mural during ‘Homegrown’ fundraiser

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Sioux City Art Center went back to the farm, Friday night, to both raise money and celebrate the return of a newly restored historic piece of art.

Friday was the Art Center’s yearly spring fundraiser, with a special theme, Homegrown. The guests dressed up in farm-themed outfits and enjoyed a meal, both a silent and live auction, and ended the night with square and line dancing.

Leaders selected this theme in reflection of the Corn Room Mural painted by Grant Wood, which the center sent in for restoration last year.

In fact, four of the seven restored corn mural panels made it back home on Tuesday, March 10th. So, on Friday, guests got a sneak peek of one of the newly restored panels.

All of the proceeds will go towards the Art Center to create more large-scale exhibits.

“It’s really, really just significant to us to be able to be a part of something like this where we see people gather who love the arts and love this community and want to see it flourish,” said Summer Amman, Development Coordinator for the Sioux City Art Center. “It really means a lot to us to be able to be a part of that and bring people together and foster those relationships.”

KTIV’s Larry Wentz was one of the emcees for the event.

The Art Center continues the fun on Saturday, March 21, with their Art Grows Here picnic event. There, families can enjoy a meal, a scavenger hunt, bingo, art projects, and planting seeds.

That all starts at 11 a.m. and is $5 a ticket; kids 2 and under are free. For more information on that event, follow this link.
