Pink tractor at Humboldt Threshing Bee highlights breast cancer survivor’s journey

HUMBOLDT, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The annual Humboldt Threshing Bee was held over the weekend. The event highlights traditional agricultural traditions, and one woman got to celebrate with a unique tractor painted pink.

Dakota News Now photojournalist Sam Tastad met with Kelli Aberson, a breast cancer survivor who is sharing her story to spread awareness.

“It opens that door for conversation, and it’s taken me a few years. My journey started six years ago. This is the first year I’ve really felt comfortable enough opening up. It usually leads to that conversation asking about my journey, and that’s when I get a chance to share with them and talk to them about the importance and how blessed I feel just because of my early detection,” Aberson said.

Aberson said the 1948 John Deere tractor serves as an icebreaker to begin the conversations.
